So, along with the majority of the Fall 2010 facebook group, I applied for the Walt Disney World College Program on January 20th. Thursday afternoon (the next day), I spent my lunch break on hold with Disney recruiting and thirty minutes later, I had an appointment for "9:30am Tuesday".
That was almost three hours ago.
Yesterday, I spent the morning at work reviewing my role selections and interview answers. Last night, my friends and I spent some time with Alice in Wonderland and Simba by pulling out some of my Disney VHS tapes. This morning I woke up at 8am, showered and had breakfast, and sat by my phone. Five minutes before the call was when I started getting antsy again.
9:31am a Restricted call set off my Pirates of the Caribbean ringtone. As the Magic Kingdom entrance loop continued to play on my computer, I answered the call.
Hannah, my interviewer was very kind. It was still early, and she was still having computer problems, but it went well nonetheless. When she asked me how I was doing today, she laughed at my response "Awesome. And really excited! How about you?" We proceeded with the interview.
We began by going over some of my application information. We discussed the Disney look, why I wanted to work for Disney, and some of my previous work experience. I was tempted yesterday to add QSFB to my application, but I decided against that today. She asked me my top two choices, and we got a little more specific with questions.
Someone in the (
new) chat mentioned yesterday that they weren't getting the typical role-related questions that they were expecting. And I have to agree. I never got the 'What would you do if a guest wanted this specific room/table and it wasn't available?". And my top two choices were Hospitality and FSFB. Some of what I got included:
- How do you go above and beyond to make a guest's experience enjoyable?
- If you had an overwhelming amount of things to accomplish, how would you go about beginning that?
- Say you were working on something, a coworker needed help, and the phone was ringing. What do you respond to first?
A lot of my answers had to do with positive guest interaction and prioritizing. She also asked me about how comfortable I was with computers, and since I had a helpdesk internship at my high school, I believe I had a good response.
As the interview rapped up, we discussed the roommate questions, including the one about living with people from diverse backgrounds. I had a few questions for her, thanked her for her time, and my interview had ended (without a 'Have a Magical Day' for me too, what's with that?) after 20 minutes and 19 seconds. I'm comfortable with the answers I gave, very glad that my interview lasted as long as it did, but I definitely could have smiled more. Oh well.
Overall, good feelings about this. I was told 3-4 weeks to wait, four weeks being February 22.
I was going to vlog about this, but at the moment I'm spending my time before work catching up on dvr. Plus my laptop doesn't have a camera. Oh well.
Until next time, HAVE A MAGICAL DAY!
