the waiting game.

Hey everyone, not much to share with you today, unfortunately...

But right now, along with countless others, I have been participating in the waiting game! This game is not really as 'fun' as, say, Monopoly or Charades. It's actually very annoying. And nerve-wracking.

If you have no idea what I mean by this, the ball is basically in Disney's court right now. I've applied and interviewed (January 26th), and now I've got the dreaded 3-4 weeks to wait to find out if I'm CP-worthy.

Yesterday I received an email from "WDW College Recruiting" and almost freaked out.. Unfortunately, they were only replying to an email I had sent last week... Drat.

So back to waiting.

In the meantime, I'm still at work and school has kind of started. By kind of, I mean that three of my classes have been cancelled all week, they're all taught by the same professor and something's up :-/ Kind of bummed, because they're all of my hospitality classes and I was really excited to get that started. And yesterday at work, I got to explain all of the parks and exciting things about Disney to a coworker who has never been. That was super fun :)

In other news, I'm attending an event tomorrow as a vendor with my boss (THE CHOCOLATE AFFAIR), and it sounds SUPER exciting and delicious. I'll definitely let you know how it goes.

Hopefully the waiting game is over soon, and I'm able to update with more Disney-related things... But until next time, Have a Magical Day!!

interview!

So, along with the majority of the Fall 2010 facebook group, I applied for the Walt Disney World College Program on January 20th. Thursday afternoon (the next day), I spent my lunch break on hold with Disney recruiting and thirty minutes later, I had an appointment for "9:30am Tuesday".

That was almost three hours ago.

Yesterday, I spent the morning at work reviewing my role selections and interview answers. Last night, my friends and I spent some time with Alice in Wonderland and Simba by pulling out some of my Disney VHS tapes. This morning I woke up at 8am, showered and had breakfast, and sat by my phone. Five minutes before the call was when I started getting antsy again.

9:31am a Restricted call set off my Pirates of the Caribbean ringtone. As the Magic Kingdom entrance loop continued to play on my computer, I answered the call.

Hannah, my interviewer was very kind. It was still early, and she was still having computer problems, but it went well nonetheless. When she asked me how I was doing today, she laughed at my response "Awesome. And really excited! How about you?" We proceeded with the interview.

We began by going over some of my application information. We discussed the Disney look, why I wanted to work for Disney, and some of my previous work experience. I was tempted yesterday to add QSFB to my application, but I decided against that today. She asked me my top two choices, and we got a little more specific with questions.

Someone in the (new) chat mentioned yesterday that they weren't getting the typical role-related questions that they were expecting. And I have to agree. I never got the 'What would you do if a guest wanted this specific room/table and it wasn't available?". And my top two choices were Hospitality and FSFB. Some of what I got included:

- How do you go above and beyond to make a guest's experience enjoyable?
- If you had an overwhelming amount of things to accomplish, how would you go about beginning that?
- Say you were working on something, a coworker needed help, and the phone was ringing. What do you respond to first?

A lot of my answers had to do with positive guest interaction and prioritizing. She also asked me about how comfortable I was with computers, and since I had a helpdesk internship at my high school, I believe I had a good response.

As the interview rapped up, we discussed the roommate questions, including the one about living with people from diverse backgrounds. I had a few questions for her, thanked her for her time, and my interview had ended (without a 'Have a Magical Day' for me too, what's with that?) after 20 minutes and 19 seconds. I'm comfortable with the answers I gave, very glad that my interview lasted as long as it did, but I definitely could have smiled more. Oh well.

Overall, good feelings about this. I was told 3-4 weeks to wait, four weeks being February 22.

I was going to vlog about this, but at the moment I'm spending my time before work catching up on dvr. Plus my laptop doesn't have a camera. Oh well.

Until next time, HAVE A MAGICAL DAY!

almost time!

We're so close I can feel it. Last night, I dreamed about Disney. What's strange about that? I never remember my dreams. I was wandering around from park to park with people that I had just met, and I was having the time of my life.

I worked by myself all morning today. So with that dream fresh in my mind, all I could think about was when applications go up and how my interview would go. I'm following Lauren's Twitter (my iPod just capitalized twitter?), so that if on the good chance that I am at work when apps go up, I'll know as soon as possible.

When I was in third grade, my science teacher talked about working at Disney. She had done the CP an went seasonal after that, returning every summer. She loved it. And ever since third grade, I wanted some part of that. In high school during freshman year was the first time I visited the website. I told my mom about it and imagined living in Florida and working in the happiest place on earth. When I discovered the Disboards last year, I realized just how many other people shared in this dream, and after some research I discovered I could still take part in the magic. I'm especially excited because I've gotten to know so many Fall 2010 hopefuls too!

Take the next couple of days to go over to the Disboards and read some posts about the phone interview questions. Take your time with the web application/interview and remember to SMILE during your interview! Good luck to everyone and here's hoping we don't have to wait much longer!

chance encounter & happy new year!

Just a quick post to say happy new year everyone!

Right now all that's going on is work (still), but I had an awesome surprising moment today. One of the girls that I work with told me that one of the Bath and Body Works guys (they're across from us in the mall) is seasonal at Disney World!! So when he came over to get his drink this morning, of course I had to chat him up and ask a billion questions. He started with the CP and has been seasonal ever since, and he has worked attractions and qsfb (which he advised I do not apply for). His current role, however, is character performer! That's really cool and way exciting even though that's not one of the roles I will be applying for. I didn't get to ask who he was friends with though =[

It also turned out that he is a campus rep at one of the schools in my city! When I told him I was going to apply for Fall 2010, he began to tell me I couldn't apply yet, which he quickly found out I already knew :-P He invited me to his campus' presentation (although no idea when it is) and while I'm still planning on applying as soon as applications come out, I am considering attending just to go. Is anyone else planning on doing something similar? I'm pretty sure I've heard of people that have done it, I mean I've been waiting and waiting and waiting (you know how it is) and want to apply as soon as I can!

So that was exciting, plus I'm going to share this adorable note that we received in the mail the other day. Back story: my Cinnabon is one of the only kosher locations in the country, and when my boss let me read this I couldn't help but "aww":

Anyway, hopefully less than three weeks (!) left to go! Also, I did my first ever video chat this evening with some fellow Fall 2010 hopefuls, it was kind of awesome.
